HIGH PRESSURE WASHERS – PT. 2: WHAT TO DO IN THE CASE OF A MALFUNCTION

Estimated reading time: 5 minutes

Following our earlier post looking at the most frequent questions during the pre-purchase phase of a high pressure washer, let’s see what to do in case of malfunctioning machine.

Although the usage of our high pressure washers is simple and intuitive, there is the possibility that you may run into some problems and faults.

The IPC team has made a list of some common situations, for both cold and hot water high pressure washers, by suggesting how you can solve them.

Let’s see them in detail!

Common problems: cold water and hot water high pressure washers

  • The high pressure washer doesn’t start: first, be sure the machine is connected to the mains supply. Then check if the electrical protections have intervened, if the machine is in total-stop mode or if other protections have intervened (such as microleaks or lack of water, etc.).

  • The pressure and/or flow rate is insufficient: it often happens when the connection to the water supply is defective and that the water inlet filter is obstructed. You should also make sure that the water intake/pressure valves are not stuck or worn out and that the high pressure nozzle is not obstructed or worn out. Finally, check if the lance is in detergent dispense position and if the pressure control valve is set to maximum.

  • The detergent dispense is insufficient or absent: be sure that the detergent tank is not empty or the detergent faucet closed. Having done this, you should check if the high pressure pipe is partially obstructed or too long (over 20 m). Even check if the lance is properly positioned.

  • The high pressure pump oil is emulsified and the color tends to white: check the pump seals and pistons. Another cause could be the high ambient humidity (in this case just replace the oil more frequently).

Be Careful!

As for hot water high pressure washers, it is also necessary to consider the boiler burner part.

  • The water is cold or not hot enough: why? The causes could concern various factors. First, the lack of fuel or its quality (the fuel could be contaminated or dirty). But not only that: the filters could be obstructed, the burner nozzle dirty or obstructed, the ignition electrodes dirty or worn out, the thermostat not correctly set, the boiler coil obstructed by limescale.

So, let’s recap:
